THE FESTIVAL VALLEY

The Festival site, in a plain called Pla de Sta. Maria next to the small village of Escalarre, is not on the maps. It lies between La Guingueta and Esterri d'Àneu, North of Sort.

The Doctor Music Festival site is located in Escalarre, a small village of only twenty inhabitants in the municipality of La Guingueta d’Àneu, amid a hundred hectares of green Pyrenean meadows surrounded by high mountains, and very close to one of the most important Spanish national Parks: Aigüestortes and Llac de St. Maurici.

Escalarre and the villages nearby (La Guingueta, Esterri, València d’Àneu or Espot, among others) are typical samples of the traditional life style which still exists hidden in the remote Pyrenean valleys, where you can find rural architecture, Romanic art, agriculture and cattle raising in its original forms, and even species of flora and fauna unique in the world.

Close to the renowned ski resorts of Espot, Port Ainé or Baqueira Beret, the French and Andorran borders, and even the city of Barcelona, the site chosen for the Doctor Music Festival, is, by far, one of the most beautiful and best preserved alpine mountain resorts in Europe.

HOW TO GET THERE

  • By car: There are three routes leading to the Festival site: the La Seu d’Urgell road, the Tremp road, and the Viella-Baqueira road. From within Catalonia, any of these routes is good, though the Viella-Baqueira road may take a little longer. Coming from outside, you’ll probably get to Lleida and then follow either the Viella-Baqueira or the Tremp routes. The latter is shorter but probably slower due to traffic. However, any of these routes will take you to the festival through wonderful Pyrenean landscapes of rivers, mountains and valleys. Coming from Euskadi, you can also get to Viella through France via Biarritz and Pau. Once in Viella, La Seu d’Urgell or Tremp, you’ll find signs which will lead you straight to the Doctor Music Festival. Just to give you an idea, it takes a 45 minutes drive from the Baqueira ski resort to the Festival site. Either from Tremp or from La Seu d’Urgell, it takes a bit more than one hour.

ATTENTION: There is only one petrol station next to the Festival site, which will probably get very busy during the event, so we strongly recommend you fill your tank on the way.

  • By bus: The bus company Alsina Graells makes a daily trip from Barcelona and Lleida to Esterri d’Àneu. Once there, the festival site is just a ten minute walk. If you need further information, call the Alsina Graells office in Barcelona (93) 265 68 66 or in Lleida (973 )27 14 70. If you are in Barcelona, the city information service (010) will also give you details.
  • By train: The nearest train station is La Pobla de Segur, which is 56 km. from Escalarre. From there, the Festival organization will provide a bus service from the station to the festival site. Remember: there are only two daily trains to La Pobla de Segur, both starting from Lleida. For further information on train schedules and fares from your origin city, please call the Renfe information service in Barcelona (93) 490 02 02, in Lleida (973) 22 02 02 or in Madrid (91) 328 90 20, or the 010 information service from within Barcelona
