On Wednesday, 30th April, “la Caixa” launched its new Doctor Music Festival Cash Card. Since then, it has been available at all branches of “la Caixa” and can be obtained absolutely free of charge (merely by being a client of “la Caixa”). Applicants also receive, completely free, a fun watch bearing the logo of the Doctor Music Festival cow. This launch is a high-tech innovation and is news for two reasons since: a) It is the first cash card to bear a personalised logo. In this case, the Doctor Music Festival logo. Undoubtedly this is yet another step towards implanting a means of payment in whose development in Spain has been pioneered by “la Caixa”. b) Doctor Music Festival becomes the first festival in the world to have its own electronic money (the Doctor Music Festival Cash Card). This card will not only be another means of payment in the festival area (drinks, food, supermarket, etc.) but can also be used in all establishments throughout Spain which accept “Visa Cash” cards. The Doctor Music Festival cash card is the same size as a credit card and works in exactly the same way as the first Cash Card developed by “la Caixa” at the beginning of 1996. Its function is to make everyday shopping and payment easier, like a traditional purse, where the coins are replaced with a rechargeable chip stuck to the card, in which money is deposited from the owner’s “la Caixa” current account or savings book. The purchase transaction in the establishment does not need any prior authorisation by telephone or signature, so this card is much quicker to use than a credit card. Thanks to its fitted chip, the Cash Card can also be used to make phone calls from public telephones. Card owners are free to decide the amount of money they want to charge onto the chip of their card. The card can be recharged as often as one wants, 24 hours a day at the ServiCaixa terminals and the latest generation cash dispensers marked with the corresponding VISA CASH symbol. At present, more than 315,000 “la Caixa” clients already use this means of payment and the number of establishments which accept it is almost 100,000 and rising fast. |
